Basketball, floor hockey playoffs take center stage

The excitement continues at the Boys & Girls Club, where the basketball and floor hockey playoffs are in full swing.

Here are the highlights:

JV League Floor Hockey, Game 10

Second-place team Sparky’s Wings & Things overcame third place JNR Gutters 5-3.

Daniel Howell and John McCarthy each scored a goal each for Sparky’s in the first period. In the second period, Dylan Fontaine and Rylee St. Amand scored a goal each for JNR Gutters to tie the game 2-2. Isaiah Williams scored a goal for JNR Gutters for a 3-2 lead in the third period, but things quickly changed when Samuel Powell scored two back-to-back goals for Sparky’s. William St. Amand scored a goal with 51.3 in the third period to secure the win for Sparky’s Wings & Things.

First-place team Align Credit Union continued its undefeated record with a 9-2 win over fourth place 99 Restaurant & Pub.

Emma Laviolette, Jared Libby and Kevin McNally each scored a goal for Align. Franklin Libby scored a hat trick for Align Credit Union. Jakob Ruperto scored both goals for the 99 Restaurant & Pub, but it wasn’t enough to take the victory.

Major League Floor Hockey Playoffs

Fourth-place team Dempsey Insurance eliminated fifth place American Resource Staffing 4-3.

Ryan Wentworth scored two goals by the second period for Dempsey Insurance. Brandon Malone and Reynier Ramirez scored a goal each for American Resource Staff in the second period. In the third period, Damian Fry scored a goal for American Resource Staffing for a 3-2 lead. A minute later, Ryan Wentworth got a huge goal to tie the game, taking it into overtime. With 50.5 seconds left on the clock, Tyler Rice got the game-winning goal for Dempsey Insurance, which moved on to the semifinals against first place Malcolm Insurance.

Third place Pistone Containers eliminated sixth place Messinger Chiropractic 9-1.
