From farm to race course

The Haverhill Gazette

---- — The city’s Tattersall Farm is typically used for fairs with agricultural exhibits and hay wagon rides.

But last week it became a race course.

A cross country meet presented by The Bradford Huskies Youth Cross Country Team and Tattersall Farm Board of Trustee highlighted many of the area’s best middle school athletes. Local schools competing in this meet, along with the Huskies, include Pentucket, North Andover, Masconomet and Reading.

The meet will hopefully serve as the start of an annual tradition of cross country races held at the farm, said Board of Trustees member Rob Moore. Huskies head coach Matthew Castonguay and Moore have recently created a 3-K middle school course throughout the farm’s property. The course features a variety of challenging terrain, including open fields, trails in the woods and hills. With the completion and restoration of more trails within the next year, cross country races of varying distances will take place at the farm.
