Over the course of two days, Hillie teams won three playoff games and earned a third-place finish in a Merrimack Valley Championship event.
The girls soccer team kicked things off on Friday with a thrilling 4-3 victory in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 North Tournament. Kerrin Thomas scored with just 45 seconds remaining to lift the Hillies to their first-ever playoff win. They then advanced to the quarterfinals, where they fell to Acton-Boxboro 2-0. The 2013 MVC Champions finished their historic season with a 13-2-4 record.
Football team advancesto semi-finals
The football team, playing its first post-season game in 12 years, also came away victorious on Friday.
The Hillies edged Lynn English by a score of 10-7. Haverhill is the No. 1 seed in the tournament and advances to the Division 2 North Semi-Finals on Friday night. They will take on No. 4 seed Lincoln Sudbury. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Trinity Stadium. Haverhill carries a 6-2 record into the game. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens.
Girls volleyball keeps post-season streak alive
The girls volleyball team kept the post-season win streak alive on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 2-1, the Hillies fought back for a 3-2 win over Reading the first round of the MIAA Division 1 North Tournament. The Hillies upped their season record to an impressive 16-3.
Girls swim team heading to MIT
The girls swim team had a strong performance at the 2013 MVC Swim and Dive Championship.
Michaela Sliney won the individual 1-meter dive championship. Seniors Meg Broderick and Cali Aramian had strong performances in the pool to lead the Hillies to a third-place finish overall. Haverhill will compete in the MIAA Sectional Meet this Saturday at MIT.
Tavitian competesin All-Star game
Congratulations to Rakel Tavitian.
The junior was named to the 2013 MVC All-Conference Field Hockey Team and competed in the MVC All-Star game. The Hillies finished the 2013 campaign with two wins and three ties.
