Sports Shorts: Adult tennis program to start
Adult tennis program to start
The City of Haverhill Recreation Department will offer adult tennis lessons and match play doubles competition under the direction of Dave Reid and John Karampatsos.
The program will be at the courts at Winnekenni Park on Monday and Wednesday evenings from June 29 through Aug. 5.
All ability levels are welcome.
Beginners play from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and intermediate/advanced doubles play from 6:30 p.m. to dark.
The cost is $50.
Information and applications are available at the Citizen Center or on the Haverhill website at www.ci.haverhill.ma.us.
Youth football seeks players, coaches
Haverhill Youth Rec Football League is registering players on the city Web site, www.ci.haverhill.ma.us. Click on "Departments" then "Parks and Recreation." In addition to players, there is a need for coaches and parents for a booster club. Call the recreation department at 978-374-2389 x 33 for more information.
Swim, diving lessons offered at HHS pool
Haverhill High School's pool will be open for diving lessons for ages 8 and on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per hour. Family Swim Time (must be age 3 or older) is offered Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $3 per swimmer. For information, call 978-374-5732.

Playoff decides 14-15 age group in city's Junior Golf tourney

Boat race grows in popularity
Hydroplane and Runabout racing boats will skim the surface of the Merrimack River this weekend for the Haverhill River Run.

Organizer Dave Goodwin, chairman of the Crescent Yacht Club's race committee, said interest in the speedboat races has grown since last year's return of the event to the Merrimack River for the first time in roughly 40 years. -

The Haverhill Junior City Golf Championship will be played on Monday, Aug. 30, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Bradford Country Club, 201 Chadwick Road, Bradford.
It is open only to Haverhill residents or junior members at Bradford Country Club, Crystal Spring Golf Course, Far Corner Golf Course, Renaissance Golf Course or Haverhill Country Club. - Garrison Junior Tour ends with 42-player field
