Flag Football Registration: The Haverhill YMCA is registering players for its Youth Spring Flag Football League. The co-ed league is an option for the children in grades one through eight who do not play spring sports. The season begins May 5 and will consist of six weeks with games played on Saturdays. Team T-shirts and flags will be provided. No weekly practices. Cost is $50 for Y members and $70 for others. Players will be selected through a blind draft process. Volunteer coaches are needed. T-ball League: The Haverhill YMCA is registering players for its introductory T-Ball League. The league is open to ages 3 to 5. The eight-week season begins May 5 and ends with a celebration. Teams meet for one hour, with a half hour of team practice time followed by a 30-minute game. Location of games will be announced two weeks prior to the start of the season. The cost is $54 for Y members and $77 for others. In the event of inclement weather, games will be indoors at the YMCA, 81 Winter St. Parents who volunteer to coach get a 25 percent discount off their child's registration fee. Soap Box Derby: The Pentucket Kiwanis Club is looking for students ages 8 to 13 to participate in its annual Soap Box Derby, to be held June 2 at Bradford Elementary School. Check-in is at 9 a.m., and parents or guardians must accompany each team member. Practice runs are from 10 to 11 a.m. The race starts at 11. The awards ceremony is at 2 p.m. There is a $5 refundable registration fee per team member and one member of each team must weigh under 85 pounds. There will be food, prizes and raffles. Money raised supports local programs such as the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, Community Action Inc. and scholarships. Legion Baseball Tryouts: Haverhill Senior Legion, JR Legion and Senior Babe Ruth will hold tryouts on May 6, at 1 p.m. at Haverhill Stadium. Anyone between the ages of 15 to 19 and lives in Haverhill or goes to school in Haverhill is eligible. These competitive leagues will begin play in early June and continue until early August. Little League Fundraiser: The Riverside Bradford Baseball umpires are donating their paychecks to the American Cancer Society and are challenging people to match their donations. Send donations to Robert Duston, 38 Smiley Ave., Haverhill, 01830 with a check made out to the American Cancer Society or donate on April 21 and April 22 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the RB1 baseball field on Lincoln Street right past Haverhill Stadium.

Wrestling Show: A pro wrestling benefit show in memory of Karen LaPierre who was killed by a drunk driver on Dec. 18, 2011, on her way to church the show is entitled "No Tolerance Think. Don't drink & Drive" at the Sacred Hearts School. Doors will open at approximately 6:30 on Saturday, April 28 with a pre-show and meet and greet with the wrestlers and the main show will begin at 7:00pm. All proceeds will go to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and M.A.D.D. This is an all ages event and tickets are $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for kids under 12. Tickets will be available at the door.

Fun Run: St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish will hold its third annual Fun Run & Walk May 5 starting at 8:30 a.m. The 5K route goes through downtown Haverhill, crosses the Comeau Bridge into Bradford then the Basiliere Bridge into Haverhill. The 1.5 mile walk route through the city's arts and restaurant district is for walkers and runners. The first 150 people to register will receive an event T-shirt. All registrants will receive a free hot breakfast after the race. The run and walk is followed by a Family Festival featuring a DJ, games, face painting and other activities. Cycle for Shelter: The 24th annual Cycle for Shelter is July 22, rain or shine. All rides begin on the campus of Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill. Cycle for Shelter, a fundraiser for Emmaus Inc., helps the local nonprofit organization provide emergency shelter, long-term affordable housing and services to as many as 200 men, women and children each day. Those services include meals, job and education training, and referrals to other services, such as substance abuse programs. This year's event features four rides, including a 24-mile "weekend warrior" route for novice cyclists. More than 2,500 homeless adults and children will seek help from Emmaus this year as they face homelessness. Riders are asked to raise a minimum of $200. Registration fee is $56 by April 15, $85 from April 16 to July 13 and $100 on the day of the event, if space is available. Please inquire about family registrations for riders under the age of 18. Charity Golf Classic: Friends of the Giurado family of Bradford will hold their first Kaydence Giurado Golf Classic May 19 at the Bradford Country Club. Kady Giurado, 3, has extensive medical problems and organizers of the benefit say her future remains uncertain. Despite extensive medical intervention, the girl's condition remains undiagnosed. Registration fee of $125 includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, and a steak and chicken dinner following play. Organizers are also planning a silent auction and raffle. "We are so grateful for the support of friends, family and the community," said Joelly Helps, the event organizer. "The challenges Kady and her family deal with daily often seem overwhelming, but we gain so much strength knowing there are such caring and thoughtful people who hold us in their thoughts and prayers." Relay For Life Golf Tournament: Relay for Life team to hold golf tournament June 2. The Relay For Life of Haverhill team, Team Turner will hold its first Dave Turner Memorial Golf Tournament on June 2 at the Bradford Country Club, 201 Chadwick Road, Bradford. The team plans to hold this event annually. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $125 per golfer and $500 per team. Golf Tournament: Sacred Hearts School in Bradford will hold its 20th annual Principal's Cup Golf Tournament June 15 at the Bradford Country Club. Tourney fee of $140 includes golf and a cart, lunch, dinner, a gift for each golfer, contests with prizes for the winners, auctions and raffle prizes.
