Both the boys volleyball and tennis teams had strong finishes to the season, and carried that momentum into the playoffs.
The volleyball team finished the regular season 11-7 and knocked off St. John’s Prep in the first round. The Hillies season then concluded in the MIAA Quarterfinals with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to undefeated Chelmsford.
Boys tennis finishes 9-7
The boys tennis team went 9-7 on the year and was the No. 10 seed in the MIAA Tournament.
The Hillies defeated No. 7 Malden by a score of 3-2 in the first round. The Hillies then fell to Andover in the MIAA Quarterfinals.
Girls lacrosse loses to Andover
The girls lacrosse team won four of its last five games to claim a share of the MVC Regular Season Championship.
The Hillies were the No. 15 seed in the tournament and were defeated in the first round by No. 2 Andover.
Track team has strong showing at championship
Several Hillie track student-athletes participated in the 2014 MIAA Eastern Massachusetts Division 1 Championship on Saturday.
Mikaela Sliney was the overall winner in the pentathlon. Riley Gilmore placed fourth in the 2-mile run and Grace Stanton placed fifth in the long jump. On the boys side, Dozie Onwuka placed seventh in the triple jump, Jorge Gomez-Garcia was seventh in the javelin and Andrew Ingersoll was fifth in the pentathlon.
Fall sports information meeting June 16
Haverhill High School will host a fall sports information meeting for incoming freshmen on June 16 at 6 p.m.
All incoming freshmen (current eighth graders) who are interested in participating in a fall sport should attend with a parent or guardian. Each fall sports team will hold individual team meetings this night. Coaches will review schedules, tryout information, team rules and other topics.
