Haverhill wrestlers do well vs. New England

Haverhill youth wrestlers take on New England

Dan Desmarias, Tom Pagliarulo, Robert Melvin and Orlando Rojas competed in the New England Youth Wrestling Championships at Lowell High on March 7. Desmarias participated in the novice division and Melvin finished fifth in his weight class in the novice division. Pagliarulo and Rojas competed in the middle school division. Pagliarulo finished eighth in his weight class while Rojas finished seventh. According to their proud coach, Jay Pagliarulo, the boys competed in a tough tournament that featured nearly 500 wrestlers from around the region.

Little League registration continues

Haverhill Little League baseball is still accepting registrations for the 2010 baseball season. Go to www.haverhilllittleleague.com. Boys and girls ages 9 to 12 are eligible for the Major Division. Those ages 11 and 12 can earn a spot on a team that plays for a chance to go to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. All players who are 12 are placed in the Major Division. Women's Slow-Pitch Softball seeks players, coaches

Dirt the Skirt Softball, an established women's slow-pitch softball league in Groveland for players 30 and over, is looking for players, coaches and assistants. No experience is required and all talent levels are welcome. They hope to offer fun, exercise and friendship, all in one. Games will be played on weekends from May through August. Practices begin in April.

Registration is open until the day of assessments, which will be on March 20 for returning players. Assessments for new players will be held at a date to be determined. The fee is $55.

Rowing club registration open

Essex Rowing Club, Inc. is continuing registration for the upcoming spring season for middle school, high school and adult programs. Boston Bruins to host first summer camp

The Boston Bruins and Pro Ambitions Hockey, Inc have partnered to host the First Annual Boston Bruins Summer Camp for youth hockey players ages 7 to 14.

The camp will provide youth hockey players with the skills and support necessary for players to reach their full potential. The camp includes 37.5 hours of hockey specific training, which encompass the Pro Ambitions signature "Battle Camp," a series of 1-on-1 game-simulated battles all over the ice. In addition, campers will participate in daily on- and off-ice conditioning, four hours of daily on-ice sessions with former and future NHL players, as well as a variety of appearances and autograph sessions with members of the Boston Bruins organization.

Each skater will receive a camp jersey and gift bag, including two tickets to a 2010-11 Bruins preseason game.

The camp will be held at Haverhill Valley Forum, Parkridge Road, Haverhill, on Monday, Aug. 16 through Friday, Aug. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The cost is $550 ($500 for goalies).

Super Bowl champ to speak at dinner

Three-time Super Bowl winner Troy Brown will speak at the 10th annual Center for Marketing Research Celebrity Scholarship Dinner on March 30 at the Venus de Milo in Swansea.

A VIP reception will begin at 5 p.m. with free hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. During the reception, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk to Brown and get his autograph. Tickets for the reception are available for $75 each.

Tickets are also available for the scholarship dinner at 6 p.m. at which Brown will discuss his career and experiences and sign posters at the end of the evening. These tickets are $75 each and include a full course dinner and the speaking program with Troy Brown.

At both the VIP reception and the dinner, glossy keepsake photographs of Brown will be available for purchase to be autographed.

Haverhill High golf tournament planned

The Haverhill High School Athletic Department will host the First Annual Haverhill High School Athletics Golf Tournament at the Renaissance Golf Club on Monday, May 24. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the tournament tee off at 11 a.m.

Dinner and awards will follow. The event will raise funds for HHS boys and girls sports programs which include over 50 varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams. The cost is $175 per player which includes a box lunch, cart, greens fees and dinner.

Additional guests may join us for dinner at a cost of $35 per person. The Haverhill High Athletic Department is currently seeking tournament sponsors and auction items.

Swimming at HHS pool

The Haverhill High School pool offers family swim time on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $3 per person. Two lanes will be open for lap swim. Swim lessons for children ages 3 and older will be held on six Saturdays from 9 to 9:45 a.m., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m., beginning Jan. 23. Cost is $65 per swimmer. Adult lap swim is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 6:45 a.m. For more information, call the high school athletics office at 978-374-5732.

Haverhill High School's pool will be open for diving lessons for ages 8 and up on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per hour.

Northeast Clinics planned for the summer

Northeast Clinics, Inc. is offering their 35th annual Northeast Field Hockey Clinic, their 28th annual Northeast Quarterback/Receiver Football Clinic and their 15th annual Northeast Offensive/Defensive Lineman and Linebacker Football Clinics this summer.

The field hockey clinic, for beginner-intermediate and advanced field hockey placers in grades 5 through 12, will run July 11 through July 14. Cost is $495 for resident campers, $370 for day campers and $425 for extended day. Team rate discounts apply. There will also be a day clinic for grades 3 and 4 from July 12 through July 14 for $140.

The quarterback/receiver clinic will take place from July 9 through July 11. Cost is $430 for residents, $330 for day, and $375 for extended day. Team rate discounts apply.
