You could call him the Mr. Tennis of Greater Haverhill.
Ray Reed of Amesbury won his ninth straight championship at the annual men's Haverhill City Tennis Tournament over the weekend. Reed defeated Ryan Swanson of West Newbury, 2-6, 7-6 (10-8) to win the singles tournament.
Reed took home some more hardware in the doubles tournament, as he teamed up with Swanson to defeat the team of Chris Chiang and Rob Newton 6-3, 2-6 (10-7) in the finals.
Tournament director Peter Lynch said 24 players competed over the weekend between singles and doubles play. The tournament has been played every year since the 1930s and is the oldest city tournament in Massachusetts, according to Lynch.
The tournament is played at Winnekenni Park.
