Hanul Moon led the way for Haverhill High at the MIAA Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championship on Friday night. The senior placed ninth in the state in the 1-meter dive with a score of 345.70. Maxwell Hoffman (25th, 100-yard free style swim), Nick Roy (25th, 500-yard free style swim) and Conor Cronin (26th, 500-yard free style swim) also finished among the top in the state.
Michael McNaughton was the top finisher for the Hillies at the 2012 MIAA Division 1 Boys & Girls Indoor Track Championship. McNaughton placed third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:32.60.
Also finishing in the top 10 in the state were: Patrick Garvey (8th, high jump), Jackie Solimine (8th, 1,000-meter run), Bridget Twomey (6th, one-mile run), Jillian Meserve (8th, one-mile run) and Riley Gilmore (9th, two-mile run). Each of those athletes qualified for the MIAA All-State Championship on Feb. 26.
With a 53-36 victory over Mt. Alvernia, the girls' basketball team finished the regular season with a 15-7 mark and qualified for the MIAA Tournament. Playoff match-ups will be announced by the MIAA on Friday afternoon. The boys' basketball team closed out the regular season with a 63-50 loss to Methuen at home on Friday night. The hockey team was edged 6-5 by Methuen on Saturday afternoon. The Hillies close out the season this week with a pair of games in the Newburyport Tournament.
Join us for a night of laughs at the fourth annual Haverhill High School Comedy Night on March 9 at DiBurro's function hall. Three professional comedians will perform and there will be a variety of raffle and silent and live auction items. All proceeds will benefit the Haverhill High Athletic Program. A spring sports pre-season meeting will be held on March 13 at 6 p.m. in the Haverhill High School auditorium. All students interested in playing a spring sport should attend with a parent or guardian. Head coaches will address each team separately to review tryout schedules, team rules and other information. Forms and user fee payments are due no later than March 13 and can be submitted at this meeting. All forms can be picked up at the high school or downloaded under the athletics tab at www.hillies.org.
