Swimming for a cause -- and a memory

They took to the Haverhill High School pool to raise scholarship money and remember a friend of the swimming community.

Local swimmers participated recently in the third annual Michael J. Horgan Memorial Swim Meet to benefit the Michael J. Horgan Memorial Fund.

Horgan died from cancer in March of 2011. He was 63. He was a member of the Bradford Swim Club, where he was involved in a variety of activities.

The swim meet, organized by family an friends of Horgan, raises scholarship money. In May of 2013, the second annual Michael J. Horgan Memorial Scholarship was awarded to two Haverhill High School graduating swimmers, Nicholas Roy and Sarah Broderick, in the amount of $1,000 each.
