Restaurant district becomes race course for a day

The Haverhill Gazette

---- — Inner-city Haverhill is known for its restaurants and shops and old factories, which have been converted to hundreds of condos and apartments.

On any given weekend night, the area is packed with people out for dinner or a drink, enjoying the city’s popular restaurant district.

But recently, a tradition gave the area over to a different crowd — one that was not out for a downtown stroll.

The annual Bobby Bell road race drew a crowd of runners and observers to the Washington Street district. They enjoyed the competition, and then capped it off with food, drink and socializing.
