Haverhill is the No. 1 seed in upcoming MIAA playoffs

The Haverhill football team is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MIAA state playoffs. The Hillies will host No. 8 Lynn English on Friday at Trinity Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. The complete Tournament Bracket is available online at www.miaa.net.

The Hillies compiled a 5-2 mark during the regular season. They clinched second place in the powerful MVC with a 21-6 win over North Andover on Friday night.

Two MVC champs heading to playoffs

The girls soccer and volleyball teams both claimed MVC regular season championships this year.

The girls soccer team won seven straight games to improve to 11-1-4. They outscored their opponents 24-4 during the streak and have not allowed a goal since Oct. 10.

The girls volleyball team won five straight and carried a 14-3 record into its final match. Both teams are expected to be seeded high and host contests in the upcoming MIAA playoffs. Pairings and schedules can be found on www.miaa.net

Coach ‘Batt’ takes 300th career victory

Girls swimming head coach Rick Battistini earned his 300th career victory on Friday when the Hillies edged Central Catholic 87-81.

Coach “Batt” has been at the helm of the Hillie program for over three decades. This year’s squad is having another great year, finishing the regular season with an 8-2 record. They will compete in the MVC Championships at UMass Lowell on Friday.

Gilmore thirdin MVC

Coming off an individual title at the Catholic Memorial Invitational, Riley Gilmore placed third at the MVC Championship on Saturday in Tewksbury.

Christian White was the top finisher on the boys side with a 12th place finish. The girls team placed sixth and the boys team was ninth in the event.

Hillie golf just misses trip to the states

The Hillie golf team hosted the 2013 MIAA Division 1 North Sectional Finals last Monday.
