During his City Council campaign, Michael Young vowed to donate his salary to charity should he be elected.
After three full months on the council, Young has donated his $500 monthly paychecks to the YWCA for domestic violence support services; The Haverhill Countil on Aging and Rebuilding Together.
Young does not choose the organizations that receive his paychecks. Young said he has asked a circle of close advisers to choose the monthly recipients.
Young's donation will help Rebuilding Together rehabilitate homes during its annual rebuilding day, which this year is Saturday, April 24.
Program Director Lynn Murphy said the organization will perform repairs and modifications at 27 locations in Greater Haverhill. Skilled builders partner with volunteers to provide low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners with repairs and other projects they would not otherwise be able to undertake, with the goal of keeping people in their homes for as long as is safely possible.
