Covanta Energy has created a scholarship for a Haverhill resident studying science at Northern Essex Community College. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a student who is enrolled in one of three college programs: associate degree in natural science (earth science, physics, and chemistry) or biology; laboratory science; or engineering science. "Northern Essex is preparing students for exciting careers in science and engineering and this scholarship will help local students access these important programs," said Ken Nydam, business manager of Covanta Haverhill, shown holding a $10,000 check to fund the scholarship. At right receiving the donation on behalf of the college is President David Hartleb. The deadline to apply for the new scholarship is April 8. It will be awarded in July for use in the 2011 fall semester. Visit necc.mass.edu/scholarships to learn more about this and other scholarships available to NECC students.
