As the winner of Northern Essex Community College's "Dancing with the Stars" raffle package, Carol Carifio of Haverhill will be flying to Los Angeles with her grandson to see a "Dancing with the Stars" results show.
Carifio's name was pulled out of a hat on Friday by Raymond and Kay Bergeron of Haverhill, parents of Tom Bergeron, "Dancing with the Stars'" longtime host and one of Haverhill's best-known native sons.
The college sold the raffle tickets, which included two roundtrip AirTran Airways coach class tickets to Los Angeles, two VIP tickets to a live broadcast of a results show during season 11, and $500 cash, with proceeds to benefit the college's Annual Fund Campaign.
The raffle was donated by Bergeron, BBC Productions and AirTran Airways.
Bergeron attended Northern Essex Community College in the mid-1970s after graduating from Haverhill High School. He was well-known on campus for his talents as a mime and still keeps in touch with Gene Boles, who taught theater at the college during that time.
In 2004, Bergeron came back to the college, at President David Hartleb's invitation, to address graduates as that year's featured commencement speaker.
The college's annual fund provides needed scholarship awards to students, program grants to faculty and staff, and support for the college's endowment.
