There were smiles and laughter, jokes and trickery.

But this was serious business — and the kids learned plenty.

Three members of the city’s Fire Department visited Consentino School recently to show students how firefighters battle blazes and what equipment they use.

Captain Raymond Robinson, Chief Richard Borden and Lt. Peter Schena talked with fifth-graders. The students had read “Summer of Fire” in class. They wrote thank-you cards and collected food donations for the local firefighters to show appreciation for what they do.
