The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Winning Opportunities for Women Committee is accepting nominations for the "Woman of the Year" to be honored at its 14th annual conference on Friday, March 12.
The W.O.W. committee was started by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce in 1996 to provide local women in business a forum in which to support one another, exchange business tips and other information to promote the growth of women in the business community.
The Chamber formerly hosted the nationally recognized ATHENA awards program at the conference, and the committee has decided to create a similar style awards program.
Criteria for the "Woman of the Year" include direct leadership and indirect leadership within their job, community service, commitment to excellence in the workplace, and character.
According to the committee, nominees must be active in a field of commerce, education, government or the arts, must have received or be receiving monetary compensation for their efforts, demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession and be recognized by peers as a positive force in their profession.
To submit the name and qualifications of a local woman in business for the award, fill out the nomination form found on the chamber's Web site, www.haverhillchamber.com, include a resume if possible and submit five copies of each to the WOW Committee through the chamber, no later than Wednesday, Feb. 24.
