Police Chief Alan DeNaro said he isn't sore about not getting the job of top cop in Somerville, and would be happy to finish his career in Haverhill.
Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone chose DEA Agent Thomas Pasquarello as city's new chief of police.
DeNaro was one of four finalists for the job.
"They got a good man down there," DeNaro said. "He's going to do a great job."
DeNaro cracked wise that Pasquarello's time as an agent probably won over Curtatone.
"I didn't spend enough time in the poppy fields," he said.
DeNaro said Haverhill Mayor James Fiorentini has asked to meet with him to discuss the hiring's aftermath.
"He said that he wanted to talk about my future here," DeNaro said.
As the city's chief of police and emergency management director, earns about $178,000 a year.
DeNaro said he hopes to continue his service to the citizens of Haverhill.
"I'd like to finish out until retirement," he said. "I happen to like Haverhill. It's good people and a good city here."
