Some high school students compete on the basketball court, others on the football field or softball diamond.

But not these kids.

Instead of basketballs and softball mitts as their tools, these students use trowels and cement. Their goal is not to score points or push runs across home plate, but rather to construct walls and buildings.

And judging by their work, they scored well.

Students from Whittier Regional High and other vocational schools in the area competed recently in the annual Massachusetts Trowel Trades Competition.

The event was hosted by Whittier, and several students from the school did well in the competition.
