City Councilor David Hall's sweet tooth got a treat during a recent visit to the Haverhill Gazette office. Hall snacked on the homemade cookies baked by the mother of one Gazette reporter.

As an FYI to any interested artists, the Friends of the Bradford Rail Trail have expanded the deadline for their logo design contest until Nov. 30. See the story in last week's Gazette or online at for more information.

The Lamplighter noticed lighted construction signs leading into downtown Haverhill still say to expect roadwork until Sept. 21. The Lamplighter can only assume the project is running slightly behind schedule.

Patrick Wholley, son of the Gazette advertising guru Ed Wholley, enjoyed dinner recently with former Boston Celtic's player Greg Minor in China.

That was quite a catch by Haverhill Hillies wided receiver Blaine Joia on a two-point conversion in overtime at last Friday's football game. It was tremendous work by Joia to keep his feet in bounds after making the catch.

The Lamplighter was disappointed by some of the taunting words toward Billerica players that were heard coming from the Haverhill sideline by Hillie players not in pads during last week's game. Hopefully, the team acts more respectfully in the future as it represents the city.
