Local veterans of conflicts from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan were recognized as part of this year's Independence Day celebration at Haverhill Stadium. However, they had to wait until some rain passed. As veteran Richard Broadnax discovered, the route to recognition was a stormy one. Broadnax stepped out into the gale while he was waiting, and a gust of wind wreaked havoc with his umbrella. He managed to weather the experience with good humor, however.
