The Haverhill High soccer teams swept a doubleheader at Trinity Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with both the boys and girls defeating Methuen.

The boys started things off with a 4-2 victory over the Rangers and the girls followed with a 2-1 win. The boys team is now unbeaten in its past six games. The Hillies have just two games remaining and have clinched a playoff berth.

Also in the playoff hunt is the girls volleyball team.

The Hillies have a 7-8 mark heading into their final three matches of the season. They close out the regular season on the road when they face Lowell on Nov. 1.

ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢

Golfers Scott Farley, Gray Marchese and Ryan Paris represented Haverhill at the 2011 Merrimack Valley Conference Golf Championships at Vesper Country Club last week.

The three combined for a total score of 268 in the event. Farley went on to shoot an 87 at the Division 1 North Sectionals on Monday at Beverly Golf & Tennis Club.

ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢

The girls cross country team finished with a perfect 10-0 league mark to capture the 2011 MVC regular season championship.

The Hillies defeated Methuen last Wednesday in their final home meet of the season, while the boys were edged by the Rangers 35-24. Both Hillie teams will compete in the MVC Championship meet in Chelmsford on Oct. 29.

ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢

The football team came close to knocking off perennial MVC power Billerica on Friday night.

The Hillies took a 14-7 lead late in the game, but a late scoring drive by Billerica sent the game to overtime. The Hillies end up falling 28-20 in double overtime. Haverhill hosts rival Lawrence at Trinity Stadium on Friday night.

ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢

The girls' swim team continued its strong season with another victory on Friday afternoon.

The Hillies came back to defeat Lowell 100-83 at home. Haverhill will compete in the MVC Championships at UMass Lowell on Nov. 3.

ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢ ÔÇ¢

There will be a winter sports pre-season meeting on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Haverhill High auditorium.

Students interested in playing a winter sport are required to attend, along with at least one parent or guardian.
