The Boys & Girls Club's floor hockey and basketball leagues are going strong, with teams vying to move up in the standings.
Here are the latest game results:
MINOR LEAGUE BASKETBALL, WEEK 3
Harold Maya Construction vs. Shoe City Hardware featured back-and-forth scoring.
Shoe City had the edge in height. Dante Makoni of Harold Maya Construction scored a game-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to match Shoe City’s Alex Latorre's 21 points combined with 14 points by teammate Peter Nunez. Shoe City took a 55-44 victory and remains undefeated.
Fantini Bakery against Rice & Broulliard Electric featured a battle of top scorers.
Fantini built a lead in the game, but Rice & Broulliard came marching back with help from Jayden Eusebio’s 34 points. It just wasn't enough, however, to match Fantini’s team play, with Julian White scoring 22 points and teammate Jayce Veras scoring 24. Fantini won 61-49.
This match between Early Contractors and Rook’s Barbershop came down to the wire.
With Early Contractors leading for almost the entire game, it appeared they had the win secured, but Rook’s Barbershop bounced back to take the lead behind a big 3-pointer by Jathien Dejesus. He finished with 12 points, while teammate Jeremiah Correa finished with 20 points to secure the narrow 52-49 win for Rook’s Barbershop.
MAJOR LEAGUE BASKETBALL, WEEK 4
Choice Fitness topped Early Contractors in a blowout win.
Choice Fitness was hot to start the game, scoring basket after basket and also dominating at the defensive end. Javien Sapienza scored 15 points, Darnell Chin scored 21 and Nathaniel Vigo had 14 to secure the 75-50 win for Choice Fitness.
Krispy Clean Kicks and Upscale Cutz battled in a double overtime thriller.
Upscale Cutz was first to strike and gained a 20-point lead early in the game, but it wasn’t enough to stop Krispy Clean’s Alejandro Delgado, who was a nightmare for the opposing team. Upscale’s 20-point lead disappeared, as Krispy Clean came back to gain the lead behind Alejandro Delgado’s 45 points. Krispy Clean held on to win 62-59.
GAME 3 was a forfeit.
MINOR LEAGUE BASKETBALL, WEEK 4
Early Contractors and Rice & Broulliard Electric both flowed well offensively in this evenly matched game.
Jayden Eusebio (16 points) of Rice & Broulliard took advantage in the paint and was effectively scoring inside with help from teammates Edison Gonzales (10 points) and Nico Rice (8 points), but it wasn't enough to match Early Contractors' aggressiveness. Alejandro Iraheta (19 points) of Early Contractors was scoring in the paint when it mattered most, while teammates Amir Jex (11 points) and Ivan Ortiz (10 points) helped put Rice & Broulliard away and secure a narrow 40-38 victory.
Harold Maya Construction vs. Rook’s Barbershop was an emotional game that went down to the wire.
With Rook’s Barbershop taking the lead early, Harold Maya made some adjustments and cut into the lead with Dante Makoni’s 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop Rook’s Barbershop. Jeremiah Correa scored 18 points to lead Rook’s Barbershop to a 41-38 win.
Shoe City Hardware was undefeated coming into this match against Fantini Bakery.
As usual, Shoe City got off to a hot start and didn’t look back. Alex Latorre of Shoe City scored a game-high 15 points, while teammate Peter Nunez scored 13 to help their team remain undefeated through week 4. Shoe City won 45-34.
MAJOR LEAGUE HOCKEY, WEEK 4
Maria's Restaurant faced off against Prime Time Sports.
Prime Time, which is trending upward in the standings, started quick with John Bilodeau netting two goals in the first period. Maria’s Restaurant had trouble keeping up. That's when Prime Time took advantage, outscoring Maria’s 13-3 in the game to secure the win.
Servpro vs. Dempsey Insurance began as a great defensive game, until Servpro’s stars, Shawn Frasca (4 goals) and Brody Winchell (3 goals), came alive and carried their team to victory.
Adrian Valentin of Servpro kept Dempsey Insurance scoreless. Servpro won 7-0.
Undefeated Dawns Here faced Don Wilson and its reigning MVP, Andrew Duchemin.
This game came down to the wire with Duchemin (7 goals) single-handedly keeping up with top team Dawns Here. Eventually, the former MVP became winded. Dawns Here’s Peter Grillo (3 goals) helped his team to remain undefeated with a 10-7 win.
MINOR LEAGUE FLOOR HOCKEY, WEEK 4
With Fantini Bakery undefeated and Choice Fitness having only one loss, this game was to determine first place in the standings.
Ryan Carlson of Choice Fitness was on a mission and scored 4 of his team's 5 goals. Ivan Oviedo of Fantini tried his best to keep his team in the game with 2 goals, but it wasn't enough to match Choice Fitness, which took over first place. Choice Fitness won 5-3.
TJS Metals vs. Don Wilson was a great defensive game.
As TJS Metals looks to get out of its slump, players Xavier Raycraft and Dorian Shannon helped the caused by scoring two goals each and also getting it done on defense, leaving Don Wilson scoreless. TJS Metals won 7-0.
