The Haverhill High girls softball team has returned to prominence, making its way back to state tournament action in the last couple of seasons after a drought of several years.

But while the Hillies have improved, they are still struggling against traditional powerhouse programs like Central Catholic.

The Brown and Gold lost a close one to Central recently by a score of 2-0.

It was a hard-fought game in which the Hillies gave it all they had — diving for popups and sliding hard into the bases.

The game was played at Riverside Park in Haverhill.
